Benjamin Wan-Sang Wah is a Hong Kong-born computer scientist and Professor Emeritus at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he served as Wei Lun Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and Provost from 2010 to 2019. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Columbia University and a master's and PhD in computer science from UC Berkeley in 1979, taught at Purdue University from 1979 and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1985 to 2011, and served as president of the IEEE Computer Society in 2001. His research covers nonlinear programming and search, computer networks and multimedia signal processing, and his honors include the IEEE Computer Society Tsutomu Kanai Award, the W. Wallace McDowell Award, and the Richard E. Merwin Distinguished Service Award.
