Dietrich Prinz

Dietrich Gunther Prinz (29 March 1903 to December 1989) was a German born physicist and computer scientist who became a British citizen in 1947 and worked as a pioneer of early British computing at Ferranti. He is best known for writing the first limited chess playing program in 1951, which solved mate in two problems on the Ferranti Mark 1 computer. Over a career of thirty years at Ferranti he was a central figure in its programming department, also contributing through technical writing, programming instruction, and work on logical machines.
