Andrew Blake (computer scientist)

Andrew Blake (born March 12, 1956) is a British computer vision researcher who was on the academic staff of Oxford University's Department of Engineering Science from 1987 to 1999, becoming a professor there in 1996. In 1999 he moved to Microsoft Research Cambridge, where he founded the Computer Vision Group, later becoming deputy managing director in 2008 and laboratory director in 2010; he also later directed the Alan Turing Institute and chaired the Samsung AI Centre in Cambridge. His research spans image interaction, stereo vision and motion tracking, and in 2011 he and Microsoft Research colleagues received the Royal Academy of Engineering's MacRobert gold medal for the machine learning behind the Microsoft Kinect motion-capture system; he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1998 and a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2005.
