Trevor Darrell

Trevor Darrell (born 1966 in New York City) is an American computer vision researcher known for work on deep learning and explainable artificial intelligence. He earned a BSE in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988 and an SM and PhD in media arts and sciences from the MIT Media Lab, the PhD completed in 1996 under Alex Pentland. He worked at Interval Research Corporation from 1996, joined the MIT electrical engineering and computer science department in 1999, and moved to the University of California, Berkeley, in 2008 as a professor in the computer science division, where he co-founded the Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research lab. His research group at Berkeley developed the Caffe deep learning library, widely used in the early growth of deep learning research, and he has mentored computer vision researchers including Kristen Grauman, Louis-Philippe Morency and Kate Saenko.
