Kyunghyun Cho

Kyunghyun Cho, born in 1985, is an American and South Korean computer scientist who is a professor of computer science and data science at New York University's Courant Institute, where he has also held the Glen de Vries professorship in health statistics since 2025. He works in machine learning, especially deep learning, and was a coauthor of an influential 2014 paper that introduced neural machine translation along with the attention mechanism that underlies much of modern natural language processing. That work helped establish sequence-to-sequence learning as a dominant approach to translation and other language tasks, and it remains one of the most cited papers in the field.
