Lydia E. Kavraki is a Greek-American computer scientist who is the Noah Harding Professor of Computer Science at Rice University, where she directs the Ken Kennedy Institute, with faculty appointments in bioengineering, electrical and computer engineering, and mechanical engineering. She earned her PhD from Stanford University in 1995 under Jean-Claude Latombe and is recognized for pioneering the probabilistic roadmap method for robot motion planning, later extending the technique to biomolecular configuration analysis. She received the ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award in 2000, was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2025, and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
