Evelyn Berezin

Evelyn Berezin (1925-2018) was an American computer scientist and inventor who pioneered early computing technology in the mid-20th century, best known for creating the Data Secretary in 1968, one of the first computerized word processors, and for designing some of the first computer reservation systems, including the Reservisor system for United Airlines, which achieved a one-second response time. She began her career in 1951 as head of logic design at Electronic Computer Corporation, moved to Teleregister, a Western Union division, in 1957 to design reservation and banking systems, and founded Redactron Corporation in 1969 to commercialize her word processing invention. Berezin earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from New York University in 1946 and later pursued doctoral studies in the same field. She was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2020 and the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame in 2011.
