Reinder van de Riet

Reinder Pieter van de Riet, known as Reind van de Riet, was a Dutch computer scientist and emeritus professor of information systems at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, born April 22, 1939 in Groningen and died December 18, 2008 in Baarn. He is known for developing COLOR-X, a linguistically based event modeling language for object modeling, and received his doctorate in computer science from the University of Amsterdam in 1968 under the supervision of Adriaan van Wijngaarden. He was appointed professor of information systems at the VU University Amsterdam in 1970, where he retired in August 2000, and his research interests included database and knowledge bases, the use of linguistics, and security and privacy problems.
