Yannis Ioannidis

Yannis Ioannidis is a Greek computer scientist born in Istanbul in 1959, a professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens who served as president and general director of the Athena Research and Innovation Center for a decade and later became president of the Association for Computing Machinery. His research covers database theory and human computer interaction, and his doctoral work under Eugene Wong at the University of California, Berkeley addressed recursion processing in database systems. He earlier studied at the National Technical University of Athens and Harvard University, and his honors include a Presidential Young Investigator Award, election as an ACM Fellow, election as an IEEE Fellow, and membership in the Academia Europaea.
