Dimitri Bertsekas

Dimitri Bertsekas was a Greek American applied mathematician, electrical engineer, and computer scientist born in German occupied Athens on July 9, 1942. He held the McAfee professorship in MIT's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and later the Fulton professorship of Computational Decision Making at Arizona State University, after degrees from the National Technical University of Athens, George Washington University, and MIT. His work spanned nonlinear programming and convex optimization, dynamic programming and approximate dynamic programming, stochastic optimal control, and the optimization of data communication networks. He received the INFORMS Computing Society Prize, the Bellman Control Heritage Award, the Dantzig Prize, and the INFORMS John von Neumann Theory Prize, was elected to the National Academy of Engineering, and received the IEEE Control Systems Award.
