Victor Shoup

Victor Shoup is a computer scientist and mathematician who is a professor at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University, focusing on algorithm and cryptography courses, and a researcher at Category Labs; he has also held positions at Offchain Labs, AT&T Bell Labs, the University of Toronto, Saarland University and the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory. He obtained his PhD in computer science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1989. His contributions include the Cramer-Shoup cryptosystem, the widely used NTL number theory library, the textbook A Computational Introduction to Number Theory and Algebra, and a proof, done while at IBM Zurich, of a lower bound on the computational complexity of the discrete logarithm problem in the generic group model.
