Graham Nelson, born in 1968, is a British mathematician, poet and the creator of the Inform design system for writing interactive fiction. He received a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Oxford in 1994, supervised by Simon Donaldson. As an author of interactive fiction he wrote games including Curses in 1993 and Jigsaw in 1995, and the experience of writing Curses in particular shaped the range of verbs that Inform can understand. He co-edited Oxford Poetry and in 1997 received an Eric Gregory Award from the Society of Authors for his poetry, and as of 2004 he was managing editor of Legenda, the imprint of the Modern Humanities Research Association. He is married to the interactive fiction writer Emily Short.
