Alonzo Church's lambda calculus and the Church Turing thesis, George Boole's algebra of logic, Stephen Cole Kleene's recursion theory, Claude Shannon's application of Boolean algebra to circuit design, Donald Knuth's analysis of algorithms, Ada Lovelace's 1843 algorithm for the Analytical Engine, Alan Turing's work on computability, David Deutsch's quantum Turing machine and Scott Aaronson's quantum computational complexity research. This group now also holds the atlas's former separate Algorithms and Complexity Theory and Quantum Computing pioneer fields, both branches of the same theoretical question this field already asked. Does not belong here: a pioneer whose defining work is a specific programming language's design or a system's engineering practice rather than a foundational question about computation itself, filed under Software and Its Engineering instead.FactsAll Theory of ComputationSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsComparisonEra of EmergenceWell-attested1936 CE 1All Theory of ComputationFilter Results297 entriesCategoryAllLogic and Foundations (2)Quantum Computing and Information (1)FieldAllAlgorithm Design and Analysis (101)Combinatorial Optimization (37)Compilers and Language Implementation (1)Computational Complexity Theory (59)Cryptography and Cryptanalysis (17)Formal Languages and Automata Theory (20)Logic and Foundations (14)Quantum Computing and Information (22)BornAll1492 (1)1601 (1)1815 (2)1822 (1)1826 (1)1842 (1)1856 (1)1893 (1)1897 (1)1899 (1)1902 (1)1903 (2)1904 (1)1905 (2)1906 (1)1909 (1)1911 (1)1912 (1)1914 (1)1915 (3)1916 (1)1917 (2)1919 (2)1920 (1)1921 (3)1922 (1)1923 (4)1924 (2)1925 (2)1926 (3)1927 (4)1928 (4)1929 (2)1930 (4)1931 (3)1932 (5)1933 (3)1934 (5)1935 (7)1936 (8)1937 (3)1938 (4)1939 (7)1940 (4)1941 (3)1942 (7)1943 (4)1944 (4)1945 (2)1946 (8)1947 (5)1948 (9)1949 (5)1950 (5)1951 (3)1952 (5)1953 (9)1954 (2)1955 (5)1956 (6)1957 (5)1958 (1)1959 (4)1960 (7)1961 (6)1962 (1)1963 (8)1964 (3)1965 (2)1966 (4)1967 (2)1968 (3)1969 (2)1970 (2)1971 (1)1973 (2)1974 (1)1975 (1)1976 (1)1977 (1)1981 (4)1991 (1)2000 (5)ACM AreaAllAlgorithms and Complexity Theory (109)Artificial Intelligence (2)Bioinformatics (3)Computational Learning Theory (1)Computational Science (11)Computer Algebra (6)Computer Architecture (1)Cryptography (7)Data and Information Visualization (1)Data Mining (1)Databases (3)Distributed Computing (1)Evolutionary Computation (1)Formal Methods (1)Information Retrieval (3)Information Security (1)Machine Learning (2)Operating Systems (1)Programming Language Theory (5)Quantum Computing (22)Quantum Information Science (2)Theory of Computation (66)Web Science (1)Credited ToAllHidetoshi Nishimori (1)Hilary Putnam (2)Martin Davis (mathematician) (1)Tadashi Kadowaki (1)GroupAllAlgorithm Design and Analysis (101)Combinatorial Optimization (37)Compilers and Language Implementation (1)Computational Complexity Theory (59)Cryptography and Cryptanalysis (17)Formal Languages and Automata Theory (20)Logic and Foundations (16)Quantum Computing and Information (23)Invented ByAllDonald W.
