Phokion G. Kolaitis

Phokion G. Kolaitis is a Greek born computer scientist and mathematician born in Athens on July 4, 1950, a Distinguished Research Professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz and a Principal Research Staff Member at IBM's Almaden Research Center. His research concerns database systems, logic in computer science, and computational complexity, building on a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Athens and a master's degree and doctorate in mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles. His honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, election as an ACM Fellow and an AAAS Fellow, the Alonzo Church Award for outstanding contributions to logic and computation, an honorary doctorate from the University of Athens, and foreign membership in the Academia Europaea.
