Seth Lloyd

Seth Lloyd (born 1960) is an American theoretical physicist and professor of mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, known for his contributions to quantum information science. He proposed one of the first workable designs for a quantum computer and showed in 1996 that a quantum computer can efficiently simulate quantum systems with local interactions, work that helped establish quantum simulation as a practical use for quantum computers. He also developed quantum analogs of Shannon's information theory, methods for quantum error correction and noise reduction, and later co-developed the HHL algorithm for solving systems of linear equations on a quantum computer.
