Zdzislaw I. Pawlak (November 10, 1926 - April 7, 2006) was a Polish mathematician and computer scientist born in Lodz who died in Warsaw, best known for founding rough set theory, a significant contribution to theoretical computer science, and for introducing Pawlak flow graphs, a graphical framework for reasoning from data. He was affiliated with the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Warsaw University of Technology, where he directed the Institute of Computer Science from 1989 to 1996, received the Order of Polonia Restituta in 1999, and was a full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences; his doctoral advisor was Henryk Greniewski.
