Cleve Barry Moler (August 17, 1939 - May 20, 2026) was an American mathematician and computer programmer who specialized in numerical analysis. In the mid to late 1970s he was one of the authors of the LINPACK and EISPACK Fortran numerical computing libraries, created MATLAB to give his University of New Mexico students easy access to them without writing Fortran, and in 1984 co-founded MathWorks with Jack Little to commercialize the program.
