Lov Grover

Lov Kumar Grover (born 1961 in Meerut, India) is an Indian American computer scientist best known for devising Grover's algorithm, a 1996 quantum search algorithm that searches an unsorted database quadratically faster than any classical algorithm, making it the second major algorithm proposed for quantum computing after Peter Shor's 1994 factoring algorithm. He earned a bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 1981 and a PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1985, then joined Bell Laboratories in 1984, where he developed his search algorithm, and served as a visiting professor at Cornell University from 1987 to 1994. He retired from Bell Labs in 2008 to pursue independent research. His algorithm achieved a practical implementation on a scalable quantum computing system in 2017.
