Software And Its Engineering

Hongwei Xi is an associate professor of computer science at Boston University, where he joined the department in October 2001. He received his Ph.D. in Pure and Applied Logic from Carnegie Mellon University in 1998. His research applies advanced type theory to modern programming language design and implementation, and he has done a large body of pioneering work on supporting dependent types and linear types for practical programming. He is the principal designer and implementor of the ATS programming language, which aims to facilitate the construction of safe and reliable software by advocating a programming paradigm that combines programming with theorem proving. He has served on the program committees of ACM conferences on programming languages including POPL, PLDI and ICFP.
