Ahmed Sameh

Ahmed Hamdy Mohamed Sameh is an Egyptian-born computer scientist and the Samuel D. Conte Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University, known for his contributions to parallel algorithms in numerical linear algebra. He earned degrees in civil engineering from Alexandria University, the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before moving into computer science, and directed the Center for Supercomputing Research and Development at Illinois before heading the computer science departments at the University of Minnesota and Purdue. With Eric Polizzi he developed the SPIKE algorithm, a hybrid parallel solver for banded linear systems, and he is a Fellow of ACM, IEEE, SIAM, AAAS and IACM.
