Akira Nakashima (January 5, 1908 - October 29, 1970) was a Japanese electrical engineer at NEC, educated at the Imperial University of Tokyo, who independently developed switching circuit theory in papers published between 1934 and 1936, working at the same time as Victor Shestakov and Claude Shannon. His approach was grounded in the existing circuit theory of the period rather than the more abstract mathematical framework Shannon used, but his work laid foundational groundwork for digital circuit design alongside theirs.
