Alexey Chervonenkis

Alexey Yakovlevich Chervonenkis was a Soviet and Russian mathematician who, together with Vladimir Vapnik, developed what is now known as Vapnik-Chervonenkis theory, a foundational framework of computational learning theory and statistical machine learning. He held joint academic appointments with the Russian Academy of Sciences and Royal Holloway, University of London. He died in September 2014 after becoming lost while hiking in Losiny Ostrov National Park near Moscow, succumbing to hypothermia.
