What was the Monsoon project that Arvind led at MIT?
Monsoon was Arvind's late 1980s and early 1990s dataflow computing project at MIT; with Motorola his group built 16 dataflow machines.
Monsoon was a dataflow computing project that grew out of Arvind's work on dataflow and parallel computing and ran in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Dataflow computing seeks to optimize the flow of data so that a machine can take advantage of parallelism, which allows faster and more efficient computation. In collaboration with Motorola, Arvind's group built 16 dataflow computing machines and developed their associated software. One Monsoon dataflow machine is now in the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California.
