Computer Systems Organization

Francois Gernelle (born December 20, 1944) is a French engineer and computer scientist credited with creating the Micral N, widely considered the first microcomputer built around a microprocessor. Working at the French company R2E, he designed the Micral N to meet a request from the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique to measure agricultural humidity levels. He later held positions at Intertechnique, R2E and Bull Micral, and in 1983 founded Forum International to develop professional computers, receiving the Chevalier de l'Ordre national du merite for his work.
