Burton J. Smith

Burton J. Smith (March 21, 1941 to April 2, 2018) was an American computer architect known for pioneering work in parallel and high-performance computing. He was the primary architect of the Denelcor Heterogeneous Element Processor and co-founded Tera Computer Company, where he served as chief scientist. He later became a Technical Fellow at Microsoft, a position he held from December 2005 until his death in Burien, Washington. He received the ACM-IEEE Eckert-Mauchly Award in 1991.
