Geoff Tootill

Geoffrey Colin Tootill (1922 to 2017) was an English electronic engineer and computer scientist who played a crucial role in developing the Manchester Baby, described as the world's first wholly electronic stored-program computer. Working alongside Frederic Calland Williams and Tom Kilburn at the University of Manchester, Tootill helped design and build the machine, which successfully ran its first program on 21 June 1948. He went on to work with Ferranti's computer business and later with the European Space Research Organisation.
