Graydon Hoare is a software engineer who created the Rust programming language, beginning it as a personal project in 2006 while employed at Mozilla. Mozilla officially sponsored the project starting in 2009, and Rust's ownership system, its central design for memory safety without a garbage collector, was in place by 2010. Hoare stepped down from active leadership of Rust in 2013, before the language reached its 1.0 stable release in 2015.
