Hampton Lintorn-Catlin

Software And Its Engineering

Hampton Lintorn-Catlin, born Hampton Catlin in 1982, is an American computer programmer, programming language inventor and author, best known as the creator of the Sass and Haml markup languages. He created Haml, released in 2006, as a radically different design for inline page templating systems such as eRuby in Ruby, and it has been ported to several other languages and inspired others such as Slim. In 2006 he created the style sheet language Sass to expand on Cascading Style Sheets, and he continued to work on it with co-designer Natalie Weizenbaum through 2008. He wrote early iOS applications including the Dictionary! app and iWik, a Wikipedia browsing client the Wikimedia Foundation acquired in 2008, and then led mobile development at the foundation, launching its official mobile website in June 2009. He has since held engineering leadership posts at several companies and co-wrote Pragmatic Guide to Sass in 2011.
