Herbert W. Franke (May 14, 1927 to July 16, 2022) was an Austrian scientist and writer described by Die Zeit as the most prominent German-writing science fiction author. He was also one of the important early computer artists, creating computer graphics and early digital art from the late 1950s onward, and was active in futures research and speleology as well.
