Jan M. Rabaey (born 1955) is a Belgian born engineer and academic known for pioneering work in low power integrated circuits, wireless sensor networks and ubiquitous computing. He earned his PhD from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in 1983, worked at the Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre, IMEC, then joined the University of California, Berkeley in 1987, where he is now Professor Emeritus of electrical engineering and computer sciences and co-founded the Berkeley Wireless Research Center and the Berkeley Swarm Lab. His projects have included the InfoPad, PicoRadio and Swarm systems and, more recently, brain machine interfaces, and his textbook 'Digital Integrated Circuits: A Design Perspective' has been used to teach hundreds of thousands of students. In 2019 he became Chief Technology Officer of IMEC's Systems Technology Co-Optimization division while retaining emeritus status at Berkeley, and he is an IEEE Life Fellow who received the IEEE James H. Mulligan Jr. Education Medal in 2025.
