John Vincent Atanasoff was an American physicist and inventor who, with graduate student Clifford Berry, built the Atanasoff Berry computer at Iowa State College between 1939 and 1942. In the 1973 decision of Honeywell v. Sperry Rand, a federal judge named Atanasoff the inventor of the electronic digital computer, the on the record finding at the center of computing's great priority dispute, which this atlas records as debated rather than settled.
