Software And Its Engineering

Kaisa Sere, who lived from 3 June 1954 to 5 December 2012, was a Finnish computer scientist specialising in research into formal methods. She was born in Gamlakarleby, received an MSc in mathematics in 1979 and a PhD in computer science in 1990, both from Åbo Akademi University in Turku, southern Finland, and undertook formal methods research in action systems, distributed systems, hardware design, neural networks and program refinement, with joint research with Ralph-Johan Back and many collaborative European research projects. She was a lecturer at Ohio State University in 1984 and 1985, a post-doctoral researcher at Utrecht University in 1991 and 1992, and an associate professor at the University of Kuopio from 1993 to 1998, before becoming a full professor of computer science and engineering at Åbo Akademi University in 1998. She supervised 19 PhD students and, with Emil Sekerinski, wrote Program Development by Refinement: Case Studies Using the B Method in 1998.
