Lars Bak is a Danish computer programmer known as a JavaScript expert and for his work on virtual machines. He earned a master degree in computer science from Aarhus University in 1988, worked on the Self research group at Sun Microsystems Laboratories, designed high performance virtual machines for Smalltalk and Java, and led the HotSpot team that built a high performance Java virtual machine at Sun. At Google he was lead developer of the V8 JavaScript engine for the Chrome browser, and he received the 2018 Senior Dahl-Nygaard Prize.
