Human-Centered Computing

Nicholas Negroponte (born 1 December 1943 in New York City) is a Greek American architect and computing researcher best known for building the MIT Media Lab. He studied architecture at MIT, where his research centred on computer-aided design, and joined the MIT faculty in 1966. In 1967 he founded MIT's Architecture Machine Group, a laboratory and think tank that studied new approaches to human-computer interaction and, with funding from DARPA, early work on virtual reality; its research was gathered in his books The Architecture Machine and Soft Architecture Machines. In 1985 he created the MIT Media Lab with Jerome Wiesner and directed it as a laboratory for new media and the human-computer interface. He promoted intelligent agents and personalised electronic newspapers, popularising the term the Daily Me, wrote the 1995 book Being Digital, and founded the One Laptop per Child Association.
