Roger Schank (1946 to 2023) was an American computer scientist and cognitive scientist who worked at Yale University, Stanford University and Northwestern University, known for pioneering conceptual dependency theory for natural language understanding and case based reasoning as an approach to artificial intelligence. Both ideas challenged conventional cognitivist accounts of how memory and reasoning work and reshaped how researchers understood knowledge representation in computational systems.
