Ted Dabney, whose full name was Samuel Frederick Dabney Jr., was an American electrical engineer born on May 2, 1937 in San Francisco, California, who died on May 26, 2018. He is best known as the co-founder, alongside Nolan Bushnell, of Atari, Inc. Dabney is recognized as having developed the basics of the video circuitry principles that were used for Computer Space and later for Pong, one of the first and most successful arcade games. Before Atari he had trained in electronics during service in the United States Marine Corps and worked keeping a bank accounting machine running. He left Atari around March 1973 after a falling out with Bushnell and sold his share of the company, and he later worked for other technology firms and on his own game projects, including a company called Syzygy.
