Theodosios Pavlidis

Theodosios Pavlidis is a Greek born computer scientist, born in Thessaloniki on September 8, 1934, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at Stony Brook University after a diploma from the National Technical University of Athens and a master's degree and doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. His research spans pattern recognition, image analysis, optical character recognition, computer vision, and barcode technology, and his algorithmic work on decoding poorly printed or damaged symbols contributed to the PDF417 two dimensional barcode standard. He worked at Princeton University and Bell Labs before joining Stony Brook, and his honors include election as an IEEE Fellow, election as a Fellow of the International Association for Pattern Recognition, the IEEE Computer Society Golden Core Award, and the IAPR King-Sun Fu Prize.
