XQuery is a query and functional programming language that queries and transforms collections of structured and unstructured data, usually in the form of XML, text and with vendor-specific extensions for other data formats such as JSON. It is a World Wide Web Consortium recommended language, semantically similar to XSLT, and designed to be broadly applicable across many types of XML data sources, including structured and semi-structured documents and databases.
