Scala

Multi-Paradigm Language

Scala is a strong statically typed high-level general-purpose programming language that supports both object-oriented programming and functional programming. Designed to be concise, many of Scala's design decisions are aimed at addressing criticisms of Java. Scala source code can be compiled to Java bytecode and run on a Java virtual machine. Martin Odersky began designing Scala in 2001 at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, and it was released publicly in 2004.

FAQs

Can Scala programs use existing Java libraries?

Yes. Scala prioritizes interoperability and can use libraries from the Java and JavaScript ecosystems.

Yes. Scala is built with interoperability as a priority, and its official site says programmers can use Scala or leverage libraries from the Java and JavaScript ecosystems. That gives Scala projects easy access to many established libraries without rewriting them.
