BlackBerry 10

Operating System

BlackBerry 10 was a proprietary mobile operating system that BlackBerry Limited, then still called Research In Motion, built for its line of BlackBerry smartphones, launching with its first devices on January 30, 2013. The system was built on QNX, a Unix-like operating system that QNX Software Systems had originally developed before Research In Motion acquired the company in 2010. The first two devices to run it were the full touchscreen Z10 and the physical-keyboard Q10, and BlackBerry Limited eventually released ten devices running the system in various combinations of touchscreen and physical keyboard. BlackBerry 10 was declared end of life on January 4, 2022. FAQs

What happened to BlackBerry 10 phones when support ended in January 2022?

Phones running BlackBerry 10 could no longer reliably make calls or use data after January 4 2022.

BlackBerry ended its legacy services on January 4, 2022, and that included BlackBerry 10. Phones running the system could no longer reliably use data, phone calls, text messages or 9-1-1 emergency calls over carrier or Wi-Fi connections, and they no longer received patches. The change did not affect BlackBerry phones that run Android.
