The Connection Machine is a series of massively parallel supercomputers sold by Thinking Machines Corporation, its design growing out of Danny Hillis's doctoral research at MIT in the early 1980s into alternatives to the traditional von Neumann computer architecture. Starting with the CM-1, the machines were originally intended for artificial intelligence and symbolic processing, though later versions found greater success in computational science.
