Edos, short for Extended (or Enhanced) Disk Operating System, is a discontinued operating system based on IBM's mainframe DOS/360. It was developed starting in 1972 by The Computer Software Company, known as TCSC, as an enhanced alternative for IBM System/360 and System/370 users who did not want to move to IBM's newer DOS/VS after IBM announced that DOS Release 26 would be the last DOS/360 release it supported. TCSC's Edos expanded the partition capacity of the original DOS/360 and incorporated features that had previously required separate IBM add-ons. Edos was later purchased by the West German computer company Nixdorf, which renamed it NIDOS, for Nixdorf Disk Operating System, and continued it under that name.
