FAQs

How did VxWorks get its own kernel?

Wind River replaced the VRTX kernel it had been reselling with its own in 1987.

Wind River acquired rights to distribute VRTX and enhanced it with a file system and an integrated development environment. In 1987, anticipating the end of its reseller contract with Ready Systems, Wind River developed its own kernel to replace VRTX within VxWorks.
