Cairo (operating system)

Operating System

Cairo was the codename for a project at Microsoft that ran from 1991 to 1996, chartered to build technologies for a next generation operating system meant to fulfill a vision, credited to Bill Gates, of information at your fingertips. The project never shipped as its own operating system, although portions of the technologies it developed later appeared in other Microsoft products.
