LliureX is a Linux distribution the Generalitat Valenciana created to bring free-software information and communications technology into schools in Spain's Valencian Community, and it ran on more than 110,000 school computers there. It began as a Debian derivative, moved to an Ubuntu base from version 7.09, and switched again to KDE neon from version 19 onward, using the KDE Plasma 5 desktop. LliureX won the Open Awards 2019 at the OpenExpo conference for its contribution to educational innovation.
