Riak

Database Management System

Riak is a distributed NoSQL key-value data store that offers high availability, fault tolerance, operational simplicity, and scalability. Riak implements the principles from Amazon's Dynamo paper with heavy influence from the CAP theorem, and, written in Erlang, it has fault-tolerant data replication and automatic data distribution across the cluster for performance and resilience. Riak moved to an entirely open-source project in August 2017.

FAQs

Does Riak depend on a single master node?

No. Riak KV uses a masterless architecture.

No. The Riak KV product page says the system automates data distribution across the cluster using a masterless architecture that ensures high availability. The same page says it scales near linearly on commodity hardware, so capacity can be added without a large operational burden.
