In artificial intelligence, a behavior selection algorithm, also called an action selection algorithm, selects appropriate behaviors or actions for one or more intelligent agents. In video games these algorithms choose the actions of non-player characters, commonly using finite-state machines, decision trees, behavior trees, or utility systems.
