The BSD 2-clause license, also called the Simplified BSD License or the FreeBSD License, is an even more simplified version of the BSD license that came into use primarily through FreeBSD, where it was in use as early as 29 April 1999. The primary difference between it and the 3-clause license is that it omits the non-endorsement clause, and the FreeBSD version adds a further disclaimer about views and opinions expressed in the software. BSD licenses are a family of permissive free software licenses imposing minimal restrictions on the use and distribution of covered software, and the Free Software Foundation states that this one is compatible with the GNU GPL.
