Computing for the Sciences and Engineering

Fields in which computing is applied to scientific and engineering problems, building computational methods around the questions of another discipline. It covers the use of computation to model, simulate and analyze physical and natural systems, and the analysis of biological sequence and structure data in the life sciences. A field belongs here when its main purpose is to serve research in the sciences or engineering with computational tools. It excludes fields that study computation itself, which sit under the theory and systems groups of this directory, and fields that serve the arts, which have their own group.
