APL2

APL2 is IBM's later implementation of the APL programming language, developed under Jim Brown and first released in 1984 for IBM's CMS and TSO operating environments, with workstation versions for Windows, OS/2, AIX, Linux and Solaris following afterward. Its main technical advance over earlier APL implementations was support for nested arrays, allowing an array to contain other arrays as elements rather than only simple scalar values. APL2 became the de facto standard for later APL implementations, and other APL vendors have continued to advertise compatibility with it as a selling point. In 2021 IBM sold APL2 to Log-On Software, which continues to develop and sell it as Log-On APL2, and the APL2 product team received the Iverson Award in 2007.
